This renovation introduced bright sunlight and a modern interior
into a classic Tacoma bungalow. The family of four loved where they
lived, but the old house was cramped and gloomy. A new central
stairway, made of translucent bar grating with a generous skylight
above, opened up the core of the house. From there, changes radiate
through: high efficiency storage and a Murphy bed make the office
and craft room spacious and flexible. The kitchen - all IKEA - is
both sunny and exceptionally efficient. New materials throughout
the house update and brighten the space - and the only addition, a
small dormer above the entry, is a reading/play/slumber party space
with bench storage that’s used by the whole family.
